About this Edition
This edition of William Falconer’s Dictionary of the Marine… was created by applying FineReader optical character reading software to 300 dots per inch TIFF format image files of the enlarged and corrected 1780 London edition of the Dictionary published by Thomas Cadell. Images files of the text were created from photocopies of a microfilm copy. High quality digital copies of the work’s 12 folded leaves of engraved plates were produced by digitally photographing the plates bound with the 1769 edition of the Dictionary which were also used in subsequent editions including Cadell’s 1780 edition. The electronic transcript was then extensively corrected by hand, with contemporary spelling and punctuation being retained with the exception of the long s that was represented typographically by the letter f prior to 1800.
