MIDSHIP-BEAMMIDSHIP-BEAM, (maître-bau, Fr.) the beam upon which the extreme breadth of a ship is formed, and which is situated in the midship-frame, nearly in the middle of her length, serving as a standard from whence the dimensions and proportions of the masts and yards are to be taken.
